I have run my car on a pair of ballistic LiPo batteries for 2 years now, these little things are 480cca and 9ah and 1.6kgs (6kgs lighter than the Deka ETX16!). Incidentally, MAN is it nice to be driving car again and damn- that thing is fast!!
Lightwright battery deka update#
I will give an update in a couple of months to see if I get stranded. My non scientific 'seat of pants' eval suggest CCA must not be much different or identical. I have turned on/off several times, cranked stereo and so far can tell no problems. I installed and car cranks up immediately, just like when I had fresh Braille. As near as I can tell, these are the same batteries with different brand stickers.

The cases are literally identical except for the dates on the markings. I took a good look at both batteries side by side. There is an online discussion (breakout from the above 'rebadge' post) that speculates that Braille overestimates CCA (and they way they calculate is different) and that Deka may under report CCA.
Lightwright battery deka plus#
The Deka ETX16 can be found for $77.95 plus shipping (cost me $85.51 to door) at: īoth batteries are sealed Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. It is listed as 325CCA, while the Braille is listed at 475CCA. The equivalent Deka is the ETX16 which is identical in measurements, weight, post orientation, etc. I never did find confirmation this is the case, but the price was a lot less so I figured I'd give it a try. Snooping around internet it appears that the Braille battery may actually be a rebadged Deka battery. The cheapest I can currently find is through Jegs: at $169.99 including shipping.

Battery is pretty much toast at this point. So I left on vacation for three weeks in June (yes, life is rough) and forgot to plug in tender again. Those of you who went to CMP may have seen Willie F. I kept forgetting to use tender and eventually had to charge battery a few times. When I came back it ran ok, but battery didn't seem to start quite as quickly. Last year I was out of country for 7 1/2 months and had someone start car monthly, and it was on the tender some of that time. Since then I have generally used a battery tender, but am somewhat inconsistent. These were $13 shipped so total of $72 shipped for me.Some of you may remember I relocated battery to cabin and converted to a Braille B2317 lightweight battery (17lbs.). You will also need SAE Battery Terminals found here:

(I know it doesn't say deka in the photo but I called and they assured it is a deka battery and when I received it, it had deka on it)

My friend was running the ETX12 but I chose the 14 for a little more cca although I'm sure a 12 would of been fine. There are different sizes/models of Deka batteries from the ETX12 to ETX20, the bigger the number the more weight/more CCA. Also, if you want to have it hold its charge for a long time you need a special type of battery charger, info found here: I'll post my results, my car used to be my DD but now I get a ride to work so only on the weekend. Starts even in the winter when left outside, the only thing some ppl say you need to drive it atleast once a week, others say once a month before it will drain out. My buddy dev on spyderchat has been running one for 2 years now in his spyder with a sound system and car alarm and it has been great. Google deka battery and you can read all about the reviews/tests/etc. They usually have 2x more than what is claimed. The braille and deka battery are identical and people test the deka batterys to have alot more CCA(Cold cranking amps) than they claim. These batteries have been popular for a few years among various people, basically Deka is the company that makes Braille batteries and they are selling the batteries directly for alot less.
